See the Director's The Odyssey Preview the Way It Wasn't Meant to Be Seen.

Christopher Nolan's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, is a film audiences have been anticipating ever since it was revealed. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited films of 2026. As a pre-Christmas treat, a preview has now been released, even if it's compromised by YouTube's poor compression—perhaps explaining why Nolan initially kept the preview exclusive to cinemas.

The Initial Look of the Stellar Ensemble

The debut footage showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland playing the son alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. During an emotional scene, the character pleads with her husband to vow his safe homecoming, only for him to respond by asking what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.

Based upon a cornerstone of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest of the legendary King of Ithaca. Following his victory at Troy, as told in Homer's Iliad, the king faces an extended and hazardous road home.

Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast

On his travels, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. These include the enchantress Circe, who transforms men into swine, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.

This film's ensemble is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

Homer's epic has inspired numerous adaptations over the years. These range from modern retellings and a late-90s dance production. It has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a multi-part album series.

The official trailer was long awaited since the film's announcement and a brief teaser which was initially shown exclusively in theaters. That teaser subsequently found its way online shortly thereafter.

For a superior viewing experience, the preview available via the film's official social channel may provide enhanced visual quality.

The Odyssey is scheduled for release on global IMAX screens next summer.
